What is the AP Physics 2 Exam?

AP Physics 2 is a course offered in high school, that is equivalent to a one-semester Algebra-based college Physics course which focuses on topics such as fluids and magnetism.  Students must first complete AP Physics 1 in order to take this course.  By taking this course, students are afforded the opportunity to receive college credit in Physics and/or the advantage of taking more advanced courses in college.

Students who are wishing to receive college credit from taking this class must score a 3 or higher on the AP Physics 2 Exam in May.

This 3-hour exam measures how well students can correctly recall and utilize cumulative knowledge learned in their AP Physics 2 class.  Students must apply this knowledge in order to correctly answer both multiple-choice and free-response questions.

Students are allowed to bring either a four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator to the exam and can use it throughout the entire exam.

The AP Physics 2 Exam is divided into 2 different parts:

Part 1 contains

multiple-choice questions

45 questions will have 4 answer choices in which 1 choice will be correct.

5 questions will have 5 answer choices in which 2 choices are correct.

Students will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete this section with the use of a calculator.

This section is worth 50% of the entire exam.

No partial credit will be given for any incorrect answers.

Part 2 contains

free-response questions

Each free-response questions will have multiple sub-questions.

Students will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete this section with the use of a calculator.

This section is worth 50% of the entire exam.

Partial credit may be given for incorrect answers.

Topics on the AP Physics 2 Exam include:

  • Atomic, Nuclear, & Quantum Physics
  • Electric Circuits
  • Electric Field, Force, & Potential
  • Electromagnetic Induction
  • Fluid Forces & Pressure
  • Geometric Optics
  • Magnetism
  • Physical Optics
  • Thermodynamics

Prerequisites that students need to master for the AP Physics 2 Exam:

How is the AP Physics 2 Exam scored?

Both sections are scored together through the use of computers, specially appointed college professors, and experienced AP Physics 2 teachers.  This encompasses a student’s composite score which is translated to the 1-5 scoring system by statistical and mathematical processes.  Students with a score of 3 or higher will be able to submit their scores to prospective colleges to gain college credit in Physics and/or advanced placement in future college courses.

In 2018, only 11.2% of all students who participated in the AP Physics 2 Exam obtained a perfect score of 5.

The best one-on-one tutoring experience

Who benefits from AP Physics 2 tutoring?

In order for students to enter AP Physics 2, they must have taken and prepared well on AP Physics 1.  However, this consecutive course may seem unfamiliar and unrelated due to the vast amount of newly introduced material, such as geometric and physical optics, fluids, and magnetism.  This may leave students overwhelmed as they transition from observing physical phenomena in AP Physics 1 to understanding and mastering the more challenging theoretical concepts found in AP Physics 2.

If students are struggling with this new Physics material, they will benefit from working with an experienced one-on-one AP Physics 2 tutor from The Glaser Tutoring Company.  This skilled tutor will be able to provide an engaging and enjoyable learning experience to students by teaching in an adaptable manner that caters to their unique learning style, which naturally promotes

maximal absorption and retention of the Physics material.

In addition to providing exemplary direction and information to students pertaining to AP Physics 2, this versatile in-home or online AP Physics 2 tutor will also be able to detect any academic obstacles that may emerge, which may have originated from previous prerequisite material, such as Algebra, AP Physics 1, or Precalculus.  By directly addressing these academic obstacles, students will not only be given a more thorough understanding of the necessary cumulative material, but they also will gain the necessary confidence to perform well in all classroom exams, as well as on the standardized AP Physics 2 Exam given in May.

Learning principles that we stand by

Each student has a unique learning style

We understand that everyone learns differently.  That's why we tailor our lessons to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

Learn how to think, not what to think

During their academic career, students may fall into the habit of memorizing facts as their primary method of learning.  However, this does not allow students to think for themselves.  Instead, we constantly challenge our students in a way that requires them to think and formulate their own decisions, leading to intellectual growth.

Nothing great is achieved without commitment

Mastery does not happen overnight.  It requires hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning.  We help our students maintain their commitment throughout their academic journey.

Grades are the result, not the goal

We focus on something more important than just getting a certain grade on a transcript or report card.  Our goal is to provide our students with an interdisciplinary understanding that will help them perform better both in and out of the classroom.
