What is the Living Environment Regents Exam?
The Living Environment Regents Exam is a standardized New York State multiple-choice and constructed, free-response exam that is given in June upon completion of a Living Environment (Biology) class, which is normally taken during a student’s sophomore year in high school.
Students who are wishing to graduate from high school with an Advanced Regents diploma are mandated to pass this exam.
This 3-hour mandatory exam measures how well students can recall the necessary analytical and conceptual knowledge that was taught in the Living Environment course, and apply this knowledge to theoretical and multi-step biological questions.
Students are allowed to use a simple four-function or scientific calculator for the duration of the exam.
The Living Environment Regents Exam is divided into 5 different parts:

A minimum of two science teachers will review and grade each student’s individual Living Environment Regents Exam. Since every question on this exam is only worth 1 point each, no partial credit is given for wrong answers. The sum of the five individual parts will be regarded as the student’s total score, which will be converted to a score that ranges from 0 – 100. This will be the student’s overall score on the Living Environment Regents Exam.
