What is the PSAT?
The PSAT (Preliminary SAT), or its less known name NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a standardized exam used across the United States to test college readiness for sophomore or junior year high school students.

If mastered, this exam will not only allow a student to become a National Merit Scholar, but also will award the student with a generous amount of financial aid for college.

This 2-hour and 45-minutes exam (without breaks) measures how well a student is prepared for both the SAT and college by testing students on their cumulative knowledge of subjects learned in high school, like English, Math, and Science.

Students are only allowed to use a scientific calculator on one part of the Mathematics section.

The PSAT is divided into 4 different sections:
The Reading Test contains
multiple-choice questions
Students have 60 minutes to complete this section.
This section tests a student’s reading comprehension level, by having the student interpret specific reading passages.
No point deductions will be given for incorrect answers.
The Writing & Language Test contains
multiple-choice questions
Students have 35 minutes to complete this section.
This section tests a student’s knowledge of sentence structure, rhetoric, and English language mechanics.
No point deductions will be given for incorrect answers.
The Mathematics Test contains
multiple-choice and free-response questions
Students have 45 minutes to complete this section.
This section tests a student’s knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, and elementary Trigonometry, with a calculator.
No point deductions will be given for incorrect answers.

Learning principles that we stand by

Each student has a unique learning style
We understand that everyone learns differently. That's why we tailor our lessons to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

Learn how to think, not what to think
During their academic career, students may fall into the habit of memorizing facts as their primary method of learning. However, this does not allow students to think for themselves. Instead, we constantly challenge our students in a way that requires them to think and formulate their own decisions, leading to intellectual growth.

Nothing great is achieved without commitment
Mastery does not happen overnight. It requires hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning. We help our students maintain their commitment throughout their academic journey.

Grades are the result, not the goal
We focus on something more important than just getting a certain grade on a transcript or report card. Our goal is to provide our students with an interdisciplinary understanding that will help them perform better both in and out of the classroom.
