What is the SAT Physics Subject Test?
The SAT Physics Subject Test is an optional standardized entrance exam students take during high school in order to apply to their desired college program.

Some colleges and universities, such as Cooper Union and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, require students to take and excel on either the SAT Physics Subject Test, the SAT Biology Subject Test, or the SAT Chemistry Subject Test in order to become a newly matriculated student.

This 1-hour exam measures how well students can correctly recall and utilize cumulative knowledge learned throughout introductory college-level Physics classes, such as AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. Students must apply this knowledge in order to correctly answer 75 multiple-choice questions.

Students are not allowed to use a calculator or a formula sheet during this standardized exam, and must perform all of the mathematical concepts mentally.
The SAT Physics Subject Test contains:
multiple-choice questions
- Students have 1 hour to complete this Subject Test.
- Each multiple-choice question will have 5 options to choose from.
- Partial credit will be given for all incorrect answers.

Topics on the SAT Physics Subject Test include:
- Circuits
- Circular Motion
- Dynamics & Energy
- Electricity & Magnetism
- Gravity
- Kinematics & Momentum
- Modern Physics
- Optics & Waves
- Simple Harmonic Motion
- Thermodynamics

Prerequisites that students need to master for the SAT Physics Subject Test:

How is the SAT Physics Subject Test scored?
The SAT Physics Subject Test is scored as follows:
- 1 point received for every correct answer
- 1/4 point received for every incorrect answer
- 0 points received for all unanswered questions
The sum total of these points equals a student’s composite score, which is translated to a scoring system that ranges from 200-800. Every year the average score for the SAT Physics Subject Test varies; in 2016, the average score was a 667.

Although there is no high school class given that is specific for preparing students for the SAT Physics Subject Test, it is highly recommended that students master an introductory college-level Physics course that provides laboratory hours, such as AP Physics 1 or the equivalent. It is also recommended that students perform well at Algebra and Trigonometry, as students need to analyze and prepare simple algebraic and trigonometric expressions mentally when presented with word problems on the exam.
The SAT Physics Subject Test is used throughout the world so that students, no matter the country, can apply and be accepted to a specific college major at their desired college or university. As a result, the SAT Physics Subject Test uses the metric system and not the English system of units that is predominantly seen in the United States.

Learning principles that we stand by

Each student has a unique learning style
We understand that everyone learns differently. That's why we tailor our lessons to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

Learn how to think, not what to think
During their academic career, students may fall into the habit of memorizing facts as their primary method of learning. However, this does not allow students to think for themselves. Instead, we constantly challenge our students in a way that requires them to think and formulate their own decisions, leading to intellectual growth.

Nothing great is achieved without commitment
Mastery does not happen overnight. It requires hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning. We help our students maintain their commitment throughout their academic journey.

Grades are the result, not the goal
We focus on something more important than just getting a certain grade on a transcript or report card. Our goal is to provide our students with an interdisciplinary understanding that will help them perform better both in and out of the classroom.
